Thank You Card from Coach Martin

I received a nice card in the mail from K-State Men's Head Coach Frank Martin as a thank you for our card and letter (below) that I wrote thanking him for letting the players come and speak to our 5th grade class. I'm sure he hasn't heard many kind words the past week due to their losses and they weren't small. It was a great suprise and it made my day!

(My letter to the coach)
Dear Coach Martin,

I want to thank you for allowing the basketball players to come visit the 5th graders at Northview Elementary in Manhattan. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear from people they admire.

The players did an excellent job answering their questions and presenting themselves to the class. We appreciated hearing them reinforce the same values we teach to them daily about making good choices, staying focused, and how bullying is unacceptable.

Thank you for your hard work in creating these wonderful citizens that we are pleased to have in our community as role models for our students!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Holly Olberding
5th Grade Teacher

Jared the Subway Guy

Jared the Subway Guy came to our school to share his story and promote making healthy choices/lifestyle and exercise. We got to see his "famous" pants that he has in his commercials. Our school was the only school in Manhattan that he came to talk at. I'm so sad that my picture with him was blurry! The kids loved it and it was really awesome to see someone that you JUST saw in the morning on TV!!! LOL

Great Photos Last Summer

My dad was married last June in Florida. Ryan is trying to get Kyra to smile...imagine that. LOL I love his facial expression and him trying to get her to turn around to look at the camera.

When I saw them walking down the aisle I couldn't stop the tears. I was and of course am so thankful to the Lord that he has blessed me with such a handsome/wonderful husband and a beautiful/caring daughter.

I saw this picture for the first time at my dad's reception in Marysville and I couldn't stop crying as this is the most precious moment I have ever seen besides the moment we got to meet Kyra the day of her birth. There is nothing more precious than a little girl with her daddy! I can only imagine the next time they walk down the aisle together...SHE will be the one getting married!

Carla and my dad gave these to me as part of my Christmas present and what a wondeful gift!!!:) Thank you!

I'm a SHORTY!

Sooooooooo.....I had three Kansas State Basketball players come to talk to our 5th graders about bullying. Yeah I think I enjoyed it just if not MORE than the kids...I'm not going to lie. LOL They did a really nice job with the kids and answering their questions. I did a quick Measurement visual of how tall Darren Kent is. The kids asked how tall he was and he told us 6' 10"...so I quickly ran up to him and stood right by him...ok people I'm 5'3"! Yeah I thought I fell short against my brother-in-law whose around 6'6"...ummm...naw...I'm a midget compared to Kent! It did give a quick observation of comparing measurement to the kids though. I of course had to take a picture......you know me.

We had Kent, Sutton, and Werner come. I really didn't know Werner other than he warms the bench BUT did make a shot in one of the previous games I watched. I was very impressed with the boys and have a great respect for what Coach Martin is teaching them because they referred a lot to Martin. It was awesome to hear them tell the kids the sames things we as teachers tell them such as: You have to stay focused on the task and not let others distract you. You have to communicate with others instead of fighting, yelling etc. You have to work hard. It is nice to have these role-models in our community and that they were able to come visit the kids...and me of course;) LOL

They open Big 12 play this weekend against OU!!! Go cats!

Kyra + Wedding Dance + Spice Girls = Crowd Stopper

We went to a wedding today (Ryan's Cousin) and at the dance Kyra danced and danced and danced. She was getting so tired that I think dilusion was setting in. At the beginning of the night I requested Spice Girls Wannabe, but by 9:30 when we were ready to go home it still hadn't been heard. Daddy went up and asked the DJ if they would play it next because Kyra was waiting all night for it. I was trying to keep a dilusional Kyra on the dance floor when we heard "I was going to wait till later in the night, but Kyra has to go home so this for is for you"..or something pretty close to that and then the song came on...ok I wish I had a camera (Yes I didn't bring it to the dance!) As they DJ is saying this Kyra is walking sideways because she is so tired but THEN she hears the song and BOOM! We are back on the dance floor moving to the beat of the song and she does the same moves she does at home, I think she made up a routine! The crowd just roars with laughter and I cry laughing so hard! She loves the Spice Girls..what can I say. We will have to put her in dance lessons next year when she is three! The girl LOVES to dance and LOVES to show off!
