Wow! What a night! Yesterday I picked up Brady from daycare and at 4 pm he ate 5 oz (very normal for him). Michelle said he didn't eat too terribly much and didn't sleep much at daycare, but he seemed ok. A couple of sniffles, but by 8 pm he was SCREAMING and we couldn't console him. He ate maybe an ounce at 8 but kept throwing his head back so we thought it was an ear infection. I was trying to make him comfortable laying in our big bed talking to him when I noticed he was breathing heavy. We decided to take him to the ER and from the time I transferred him to his changing table he was really retracting and struggling to breathe....I pretty much scooped him up, got Kyra and Ryan in the car and sped to the ER at Mercy. I didn't have a bottle, diapers or anything.
When we got there his saturation level was at 88%, a place a baby really shouldn't be. They took a chest x-ray and in his lower left lung it showed some haziness, when the ER Dr said was pneumonia and that they were going to admit him.
Megan and Gerard came and got Kyra, which was such a blessing that they could take her. She was very concerned about her brother but mommy was really stressed. I sent Ryan home to get our things and while he was gone they tired drawing blood and starting an IV...OH MY GOD....this was the hardest thing for me to watch. I had to leave because I just bawled and bawled. They couldn't get anything from his arms or legs so they called the PEDS nurses to come down and they finally got about 4 MLs from he head...agh I was so sick to my stomach. They had the tunic on his arm too long and his little arm was so blue and spotty from the capillaries bursting. Then when I came back in they were drawing blood from his head then he jerked and jerked the needle out.....I tell you my poor poor baby...all I wanted to do was scoop him up and hug him.
We finally got to our room at midnight.....we got to the ER at 9 pm. They got him hooked up to the oximeter and he was at about 94% which was much better. He was resting for about 2 hours when he woke up SCREAMING again and started thrashing around. I just laid by him whispering in his ear that mommy was here and he would be ok.....I was sobbing because I couldn't do anything to make my baby feel better. Then all of sudden he threw up everywhere. I think he had drainage, trouble breathing and he had himself so worked up that is caused him to throw up. It was definately almost more than I could handle with his little eyes talking to me of "Mommy help me!"
We got him cleaned up and his saturation was then ranged from 89-91% so they gave him oxygen which brought it up to 98% but he still was retracting quite a bit struggling to breath. I got so scared, I finally told God that it is was his will and that I give it up to him, which was the hardest thing, but I had to trust that he would take care of my baby. They gave him a breathing treatment and that helped TREMENDOUSLY! Finally about 4 am he calmed down enough to get some sleep.
So by 4 am he had not eaten since 4 pm and really hadn't slept all day. I got up and headed over to school at 5:50 am to make lesson plans and I honestly don't really remember going over there nor do I remember parking the car when I got back to the hospital.
When I got back Ryan had him up and he had eaten 2 oz. His saturation level started to come up and stay up with the breathing treatments given every 4 hours. By noon he was back to more of the happy guy I know. He fell asleep at 12 and slept until 4:30...he needed that good sleep and so did mommy and daddy.
We were dismissed after that and got home by 5:30. So we are continuing the treatments every 4 hours and he is eating 2 oz here and there so at least he is getting fluids and he is not dehydrated. He is 17 POUNDS!!!!! Half of Miss Kyra!
So far in the past three months we have been at the ER three times and admitted twice all exactly a month apart almost to the DAY! Each time the same symptoms. We are thinking allergy related, but who knows when they are this tiny.
I am not sure of God's plan but have to trust in him. I told the nurses that he was really making us work for the title of Mommy and Daddy;) The nurses all remembered him;). We had the same nurses as we did the last time we were admitted. That was comforting in itself I think.
So we are home now and hopeful we have turned the corner, he just got so sick so fast. Yet in 12 hours he was rounding the bend. So we will keep praying for his health and strength/support.
We want to thank all of you for your kind words and thoughts. We are so thankful for all of you that are so caring. Just knowing you are thinking of us truly helps us more than you know. I know it definitely helped me get through last night.
